The Happenings at Creative

In June we celebrated 2 employees that would be leaving us very shortly. Kyle and his family relocated to Indiana after losing their home in the aftermath of the Camp Fire. They are excited to start fresh in a new home.

Angie is relocating to Sacramento to pursue a career in Sales as she graduated from Chico State in May.

What better way to celebrate two stellar employees than to have a Salsa Showdown! All employees were invited to bring their best homemade salsa to compete for prizes and of course bragging rights. We had a total of 14 unique salsas ranging from mild to extra hot.

It was a close race to the top 3! Congratulations to our winners and a big thank you to all of our participants!

2nd Place: Aaron with his Classic Tomato Salsa
3rd Place: Geo with his Slow Burn Salsa

Creative Spotlight: Chloe's Mountain

Wes Bristol first began his directing career in videos and television shows. He never dreamed of becoming a film director – he knew it was a completely different beast. However, when the opportunity arose to direct a film in need of help, he knew immediately what he needed to do.

Wes did not back down from the challenge and it payed off tenfold. His new movie Chloe’s Mountain has been nominated for numerous prestigious awards and he took home the best one. Chloe’s Mountain won Audience Choice for Best Picture at the International Christian Film Festival in Florida.

Wes came to us needing several types of marketing materials prior to the movie showing at the film festival. He worked directly with our lead designer Scott to design and deliver retractable banners, movie tickets, photo realistic posters, and more.

“Working with Scott has been a delight. He was accommodating and easy to work with. He doesn’t get offended if we don’t agree on something. He actually came up with the slogan for the movie!”

It was a pleasure working with Wes and helping him develop the marketing materials he needed to showcase his fantastic new movie! He is putting on a tribute to Paradise with a showing of Chloe’s Mountain where, “the proceeds will be used to build a memorial for those who perished as a result of the disaster.”

Behind the Scenes: NorthStar Engineering

“Established in 1983, NorthStar is a multi-disciplinary architecture, engineering, environmental, planning, surveying, and water resources consulting firm located in Chico, California.”

NorthStar serves solely the Butte County community with an emphasis in Chico. They are the prime example of a local business that caters (quite well) to the local community. This is just one of the reasons we love working with NorthStar.

Jessica from NorthStar came to Creative looking for something pretty interesting to entertain their guests for NorthStar’s 35 Year Anniversary celebration. We have partnered with NorthStar for many different marketing materials they needed; from business cards to letterheads, and everything in between. But this time, Jessica wanted something that was quite out of the box – or so she thought.

That’s how the NorthStar cornhole boards were born! Our Pre-Press Manager Steve went straight to work to create a sleek and on-brand design for the corn hole set. Once the design was complete it was sent out to the signage department and printed on gloss vinyl. After the vinyl was printed our Signage Manager Brandon had very specific cut templates in order to guarantee the best fit with no wrinkles. The end product was fantastic!

Driving FORE! Autism

We were invited to sponsor the 7th Annual Driving FORE! Autism event hosted by Cleanrite Buildrite. Creative was one of the major sponsors of the event and we were happy to attend!

We were serving up sausage and Plinko with a smile. We saw over 200 golfers that day and everyone excited to play Plinko. Some were yelling, "No Whammy! No Whammy!" others were just aiming for the Klean Kanteen slot. From Creative hats to a set of custom printed golf balls, everyone walked away a winner.

Not only did we sponsor the event and attend as a vendor, we also had a team of 4 competing in the tournament! The Creative Team ended the tournament with 7 under par. While they didn't take 1st place, they certainly had a great time.

Big thanks to CRBR for inviting us to attend for the 3rd year in a row!

Creative Spotlight: Chico Enterprise-Record

Chico Enterprise Record has a long standing history in Northern California. While they went through a few name changes one thing remained true - they have an undeniable dedication to true journalism. In the past 70 years they have only had FOUR editors. If that doesn't prove ChicoER's passion for journalism I don't know what does!

"The Enterprise-Record has served our community for more than 150 years. We strive for high standards in community journalism, getting things right, and being fair about it." - Mike Wolcott, Editor

ChicoER is Creative's closest neighbor on Park Ave and we have done business with them for quite some time. ChicoER relies on us to design and print eye catching and bold banners to announce exciting projects and achievements. It is always a pleasure working with the ChicoER team and we're happy they can make the trek ALL THE WAY across the street!

"We reached out to Creative Composition for a banner commemorating our coverage of the Camp Fire, which resulted in us being named a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for the first time in our history. Almost immediately, they gave us a couple of options to choose from. We're happy with the finished product, and we're lucky to be across the street from such a great business." - Mike Wolcott, Editor

Behind the Scenes: El Grullense

Leo and his family originally wanted to open a full fledged restaurant knowing him and his family had some seriously spicy cooking skills. As a natural entrepreneur, he also knew putting down roots for a restaurant was a daunting investment and decided starting with a taco truck was the safer choice.

4 years ago Leo and his family decided to take the leap. At that same time the previous owner of El Grullense decided he was ready to sell his operation. The name El Grullo is a city in Jalisco, Mexico. Leo decided to keep the name as El Grullense was the very first taco truck in Chico.

Fast forward to today, El Grullense is thriving. Leo and his family just opened their second taco truck which is what brought them back to Creative Composition. They were looking to wrap their new truck with a new expanded menu.

Leo partnered with our graphic design team to design his new menu that promoted readability and easily guided the customer through it. This included strategic placement, color matching, font choices, and lots of back and forth to create the perfect menu.

Now El Grullense's second truck is fully operational and is busy all day long. It was a pleasure working with Leo and his family. We love working with local companies that have family values just like we do.

El Grullense is located in our parking lot at 396 E. Park Ave Chico, CA 95928. Come get your taco on!
